Hemp / Cannabis Plant

Cannabis sativa L., a subspecies of Cannabis, is also known as industrial hemp. Varieties of hemp contain a number of compounds, including terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabinoids, like cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Hemp was legalized by The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (2018 Farm Bill) when it was defined as “any part of [Cannabis sativa L… including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers” with no more than 0.3% concentration of THC.]

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of hundreds of naturally occurring, biologically active compounds found in Cannabis sativa L. CBD is one of the most abundant cannabinoids in the plant and is nonintoxicating, unlike THC. The majority of research on the cannabis plant has focused on either CBD or THC.

Difference between types of CBD: broad spectrum, full spectrum and isolate

The hemp industry uses terminology for communicating to consumers about the type of hemp-derived cannabinoids in their products.

  • Broad-Spectrum Hemp Extract
Contains a range of naturally occurring phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant, including CBD as well as other cannabinoids, such as cannabigerol (CBG) or cannabinol (CBN) among others, but contains only trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Broad-spectrum hemp extract also contains other naturally occurring compounds from the plant, including terpenes and flavonoids. This extract is the perfect option for consumers who want the benefits of the Cannabis plant without the impairing effects of THC.

  • CBD Isolate
An extract of the Cannabis sativa L. plant which contains pure CBD without any other compounds.

  • Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract:
Contains all the compounds from the Cannabis plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and a maximum of 0.3% THC. This extract is the best option for consumers who are comfortable with trace amounts of THC.
