Activated Nasal Mist FAQs
What is your Activated Nasal Mist intended for?
NOW® Activated Nasal Mist is formulated to soothe and cleanse nasal passages of dirt, dust, and irritating airborne particles. Use the spray to keep sinuses moist and clean.
Dry airways are more easily irritated and extremely vulnerable to external contaminants. In dry conditions (low humidity, desert-like conditions, and heated homes and buildings during winter), use it to humidify nasal passageways for greater comfort.
How do I use the spray?
Gently squeeze a small amount vertically upwards into nose. Use it 2 to 3 times per day or as needed.
How does the Nasal Mist Work?
NOW® Activated Nasal Mist combines a saline (sea salt) solution with other natural ingredients that work together to maintain clear, moist nasal passages. First, we start with saline from natural sea salt at the concentration of physiological saline (0.85%) to moisturize nasal tissues. We’ve also included erythritol and xylitol, which are both safe and effective sugar alcohols. They exert what is known as an "osmotic pressure", which helps to cleanse mucosal surfaces.
Finally, a carefully crafted blend of NOW's pure essential oils soothes, moisturizes, and refreshes the nasal passages. This combination of simple ingredients makes NOW's Activated Nasal Mist a unique natural formula.
I’ve seen other nasal products with xylitol. How do these differ from the NOW® Activated Nasal Mist with both erythritol and xylitol?
Our Activated Nasal Mist combines the benefits of erythritol and xylitol to produce an effective formulation. Both sugar alcohols are effective osmotic agents. In technical terms, erythritol has a lower molecular weight and thus produces a higher osmotic pressure than xylitol and, gram for gram, erythritol is actually more effective than xylitol in this regard.
NOW’s nasal spray contains a much higher amount of erythritol than xylitol. Both sugar alcohols however, work together to lessen the adherence of particles to the inside of the nose.
