Bruno Fratus
My name is Bruno Fratus
I’m a professional swimmer from Brazil. Before becoming an Olympian, I started just like any other “hyperactive” kid, trying pretty much every single sport out there – from soccer to surfing. But somehow, swimming was the sport I was best at. It didn’t take too long for me to fall in love with it and develop a highly competitive instinct.
Racing during my high school years was a lot of fun. As I was becoming a stronger athlete, I was also learning values such as commitment, teamwork, and discipline. The sport of swimming made me who I am today.
So in 2007, at the age of 17, it all started to get more serious. I moved from my hometown to pursue the dream of becoming a professional athlete and Olympian. A few years and yards later, between struggle and success, I was blessed to participate in two Olympic Games: London 2012 and Rio 2016. And at my third games in Tokyo 2020, I won the Bronze Medal in the 50-meter freestyle. Fun fact – I’m the oldest swimmer in history to win a first Olympic medal.
